This cute colorful critter is a craft made with seed beads and minimal supplies.
I love the vibrant blues for this beaded dragonfly.
The supplies you will need for this craft are two different sized seed beads, some wire cutters and a ruler.
Measure your wire by using an entire length of a ruler once and then fold the wire onto itself three or four times. Cut the wire after you are done measuring. You can also measure the wire using your arm, from the tip of the elbow crease to the wrist should do it, then fold the wire onto itself three or four times. You want enough wire to work with.
Thread one of the smaller sized beads onto one wire until it reaches halfway through and then fold both wire ends to meet each other. This will be the tip of the “tail” so I choose a distinct metallic silver color.
Choose a color for the “tail”. Thread 9 of the larger beads in a different color onto both wires. Push the beads all the way down to the tip of the tail.
Thread two more of the same color, large sized beads onto one wire.
Thread the opposite wire through these two beads.
Pull both ends of the wire until the beads meet the tail end of your dragonfly. These are the “body beads”.
Add 25 of the smaller sized beads in a different shade onto one wire. This shade will be the “wing” color.
Thread that wire through both of the previous two body beads.
Pull the wire all the way through so you form one wing.
Repeat this process for the second wing on the other wire.
Add two more body beads to one wire and thread the other wire through like we did before.
Pull both wires all the way until the body beads reach the body of the dragonfly.
Add 30 of the smaller size beads in the same shade as the other wings onto one wire. Then pull that wire through both of the two new body beads. Pull the wire all the way through to form a wing. Repeat this on the other wire to form the last wing. You can shape the wing to your liking using gentle pressure from your fingers.
Add two more body beads and repeat the body bead step.
Add a different shade of color for the eyes, I choose a golden metallic color. Thread one bead on each wire and place them all the way down to meet the body of the dragonfly.
Add one large sized bead, in the body color, to one wire then thread the other wire through this single bead. Thread it all the way through.
Once finished, you can trim the ends of the wire and twist them together like I did or you can leave the ends of the wire and tie them into a loop to hang up the beaded dragonfly. I had my little dragonfly hang out on my laptop with me. There you have it, a DIY beaded dragonfly!
