One of my favorite activities to do in the last couple years has been making sugar scrub.  My initial interest was for my classes of course.  It seemed like it would be a great activity for our The Beauty Bar classes.

Now, personally I am not one of those people who are into beauty products.  My daily routine is a shower with a basic shower gel, right now I am experimenting with Baby Dove Sensitive Moisture, and I use the same for my face twice a day.  And that is basically it.  While I also have a coupla issues with my skin, I have not really put much work into treating those issues.

However last summer, I decided to do something about the Dermatosis Papulosa Nigra on my face.  I used two homemade treatments: fresh garlic and castor oil.  It seemed to be working but then I became really busy with the beginning of the school year that I let the beauty regiment fall to the way side.  The one thing I did keep up for a while longer was using a sugar scrub.  I liked how it made my skin feel.  So if you know someone who is into beauty products this may be the perfect gift.  Very few simple all natural ingredients and you’ve created a wonderful product that is great for the skin.

I will admit that this recipe actually ended up with two massive benefits: the first was the state of my skin, the second: for over a year, I had been having a massive problem with my eyes being itchy.  I have always suffered from hay fever but never to this extent.  For over a year my eyes were extremely itching, every day, non stop.  I had tried different types of eye drops and Benedryl type anti histamines to no avail.  But I started using this turmeric sugar scrub and within a coupla weeks, I noticed that the itchiness had gone down and eventually stopped.  My eyes have not itched since I started using the face scrub.  I went through Fall without using any eye drops at all. Miracle!

Now, please note that I am talking about my own personal experience and that no studies have been done to prove this.  And I also am not telling people to use this product to treat their eye itchiness.  Not at all.  But if you are looking for a product to help improve your skin, then a sugar scrub is the way to go.

Supplies: 3/4 cup + 2 tablespoon granulated sugar, 1 teaspoon sodium lauryl sulfoacetate or SLSA (optional, this is the soap), 1 tablespoon fractionated coconut oil, 1/4 teaspoon turmeric.

Add the sugar and the SLSA together.

Mix well.

Add the turmeric to the sugar mixture and mix well.

Add the fractionated coconut oil to the sugar mixture.

Mix well.  You will note that I am wearing a glove here.  Since Turmeric is used as a dye, I wanted to make sure that I did not have yellow fingers for the next coupla days.   However that being said, I have noticed that my hands or face are never colored when I use the face scrub.  I am not sure if that is because of the coconut oil and or the SLSA.

You can play around with the amount of turmeric you use.  I like this shade of yellow

The sugar scrub in the heremes jar.

Almost ready to gift.
