Origami animals have become my current obsession when it comes to paper crafts. Since we work with kids as young as 5 years old, I am always on the lookout for easy origami projects.
When I came across these cute animals, I knew they were exactly what I was looking for.
So check out the the following kitty cat tutorial along with the upcoming creatures tutorials. I find it helpful sometimes to be able to see a video for what I am learning to make so I am including one here as well. Check it out …
For this Kitty, I used a 4.5 inch wide square origami paper.
Turn the paper right side down.
First, fold the square in half diagonally to form a right angle triangle.
Create a sharp crease by running your nail on the fold.
Turn the triangle into a smaller right angle triangle. Do this by bringing the two folded edge corners together. Again use your nail to create the sharp crease on both folded edges.
Unfold to get the bigger triangle. Place it in front of you so that the folded edge is closest to you and the right angle is pointing away from you.
Bring the right angle to the folded edge making sure that the tip is lined up with the fold line.
Create a sharp crease on the fold line and unfold.
Bring the tip of the right angle to the newest fold line making sure the triangle tip lines up with the center fold line. This will make a small triangle. Create a sharp crease.
This is how it should look.
To create the ears, I started with the right side. Use the bottom center fold line as the start of the ear fold. Fold the right side up so that the bottom fold aligns with the right corner of the triangle flap.
Create a sharp crease on the newest fold line.
Repeat on the left side, again creating a sharp crease on the newest fold.
Both ears done. This is the back of Kitty.
Turn Kitty right side up.
Now is the time to have a little fun. Its time to draw Kitty’s features.
All done. Cute Kitty.
