Kumihimo is a Japanese artform of making braided cords. Using a foam Kumihimo disk makes this technique easier for those new to it, and is what is used in this bracelet.

The pattern of this bracelet makes a repeating heart pattern.

Supplies: Two colors of cording or string, a Kumihimo disk, and a clasp (I used a magnetic one)

First step is to cut 5 lengths of one color of cord (background color) and 1 length of the accent cord (color of hearts). I cut mine to a little less than my wingspan.

Thread all six strings through the clasp and tie a knot securing the clasp in the middle of the length of the strings. You should end up with 12 total strings coming out from the knot.

The next step is to set up all the strings in the disk. Place the clasp and knot in the center of the middle hole. Place one base color string on either side of the left and right dots. Place two base color strings on either side of the top dot. Place one accent color string on either side of the bottom dot and one base color string on either side of the accent color. Pull all the strings so they are tight and the knot is in the center.

The Pattern

Move the string to the immediate right of the top dot to the next free spot below the left dot.

Move the string to the immediate left of the top dot to the next free spot below the right dot.

Move the string to the immediate right of the bottom dot to the next free spot above the left dot.

Move the string to the immediate left of the bottom dot to the next free spot above the right dot.

Move the two strings on either side of the top and bottom dots in one slit closer to the dot. They should now be adjacent to the top and bottom dots.

Move the string immediately above the left dot to the next free spot to the left of the bottom dot.

Move the string immediately above the right dot to the next free spot to the right of the bottom dot.

Move the string immediately below the left dot to the next free spot to the left of the top dot.

Move the string immediately below the right dot to the next free spot to the right of the top dot.

Move the two strings on either side of the left and right dots in one slit closer to the dot. They should now be adjacent to the left and right dots. It should now look how it does in the first step of the pattern.

Repeat the pattern until the desired length. Try to keep the strings tight against the disk.

The bracelet will form coming out the back of the disk.

Finishing

Remove all the strings from the slits of the disk. Gather them together and thread them through the other side of the closure. Tie a knot and use a dab of glue to secure the knot.

And the bracelet is finished!

The heats of my bracelet are small because my thread was thin. A thicker string will produce larger hearts.
