As we transition into the cool crisp air of Autumn, enjoying our apple spice pumpkin flavored drinks and treats, you can create a fabulous wreath to decorate your home.
Wreath’s are relatively easy to make and don’t require a lot of supplies. You can use all kinds of supplies from paper and felt to flowers and ribbon to decorate your wreath. While I used faux flowers to make this wreath, you could use fresh flowers for a truly radical idea. Yes, it won’t last as long, but wow, what a look that would be.
For this craft I used a wooden bamboo ring, faux flowers, faux fall leaves, a festive ribbon, measuring tape, scissors and a glue gun. The ribbon I used was 2.5″ wide.
To get started you will need to cut some ribbon pieces. The first piece will be 15.5″ long.
Once you cut this piece go ahead and fold it in half. Use your glue gun to adhere the ends together. It will look like the image below now.
Now this piece will be wrapped around the bamboo ring. Each time you wrap the ribbon around the ring, use your glue gun to place a dollop of hot glue on the ring prior to wrapping. Keep going until the entire ribbon piece is fully wrapped. The remainder of the bamboo ring needs be empty for the next step.
The next step will be to figure out an arrangement design for the faux flowers and faux leaves. You can take some time prior to gluing them on to find an arrangement that you like. One by one you will glue them on until your bamboo ring is fully covered.
Almost done. One more detail to take care of.
Next you will need to cut three more pieces of ribbon to make the ribbon bow. The longest will be 16.5″. The next will be 9.5″. The last piece will be 2.5″, see image above top left.
Now you will need to fold each piece in half. Use your glue gun to secure the ends. The 2.5″ piece you will likely need to fold in half twice length wise. The other two pieces fold in half width wise. See image above, top right.
Lay flat the longest piece down on your table or floor. On top of that you will lay the second longest piece right in the center. Use your glue gun to place a dollop of glue in the center of the two pieces and press gently with your fingers. See image above bottom left.
Now using your middle finger and thumb pinch together your two fingers down the center of your ribbon to form a bow shape. Hot glue the center of this ribbon where your two fingers meet. See image above, bottom right
Now using the final small piece of ribbon you cut, go ahead and wrap it around the center of the bow to finish the look. Hot glue it in place.
Lastly you will need to use your glue gun to secure the bow on to the wreath to finish it.
And there you have your DIY Fall Wreath! Now you can hang it up on the front door or window.
