These hair clips are a fun way to add a pop of color in your hair, but since it’s removable, it isn’t permanent like hair dye.

I made these with the kiddos in my class a couple of weeks ago, and they loved them! I had several colors of hair for them to choose from, and we layered two different colors together so that it looked even more fun. The hair that I brought was real human hair that was dyed, so the kids could actually use heat products on it to curl or straighten it, unlike with plastic hair that would melt. The kids had fun thinking of different hairdo’s they could make with their new clips. And we surprised the parents when they walked out with colored hair!

Here’s how to make your own hair clip:

Supplies: hair clip, faux hair, scissors, needle, and fishing line (or thread that’s the same color as the faux hair).

Begin by cutting your faux hair to the size of your hair clip. **Note: for thicker hair, use two layers of faux hair – either in the same color or a different color.**

Cut the thread (for my clip, which is 1.5” wide, I cut the thread about 25” long).

Thread it through the needle.

Sew the thread through the woven part of the faux hair and into the first hole on the hair clip.

Tie a knot.

Sew across all the holes.

Repeat sewing back and forth a few times.

Tie a final knot and cut the ends of the thread, hiding the ends within the clip.

Your hair clip is done!

**Optional last step: cut the faux hair to the length of your hair, so it blends in more.
